The clients brief was to restore and convert a Grade II Listed Cornish Engine House together with proposed additional accommodation to ensure future long-term preservation of the historic asset and to establish residential use. A considerable amount of background research, investigations and conceptual analysis were undertaken prior to preparing and submitting the planning and listed building applications. Prior to this a pre-application was extended into a PPA process which secured collaborative working between clients, design team, LPA, Conservation Officer and Historic England. During a series of productive workshops the design proposal was developed and planning and listed building approval was granted.
